MX Lookup E-mail
Venerdì 28 Agosto 2009 08:58

The MX lookup is one of the most important services, which allows to test if an email box actually exists and/or can be accessed. Since spammers are globally rejected by email, they need to create a large number of accounts in order to appear always as an unknown user. Recently, they use automated registration programs, which break into public services and create an infinite number of fake accounts. This practice however will soon come to an end, because the resources of providers and the patience of the common people are not infinite. Email providers will lock out automated processes, eventually requiring some kind of authentication which won't be furnished by spammers or the one-time payment of a very small fee.

This service was written in natively executable code in order to allow to issue standard MX queries directly from the operating system. This was needed because Windows does not implement the respective DNS functions in PHP.

Our service connects to the given email addresses MX records, and stores a record in our database, if they can't be accessed for whatever reason. Gray-listed email accounts are accepted, though.
